​​​​​​​A po​werful ecosystem of IT tools and solutions is available to University of Maribor employees

An extensive ecosystem of IT tools and solutions, followed by the brief description given below, is available to all University of Maribor (UM) employees. Additional information can be found at the links provided.

The University digital identity enables access to numerous systems and tools presented below. Some of the tools are available for installation on your computer. When using such services, following UM Information security policy, but also terms of use, given by the manufacturers or service providers related to the academic, non-commercial environment, is necesarry.

The following services are available, grouped by the purpose of use:

Connectivity​

  • fast and stable Eduroam wireless network that can be accessed worldwide as well as the optimised wifi5UM network available at the majority of UM Faculties and Student Dormitories of Maribor locations;
  • virtual private network (VPN) service, ensuring a secure connection between user device and the university network, when using at home, at a conference, on a business trip or at another location, beeing connected to public internet.

Communication, E-mail, Collaboration

  • the e-mail service with the option of sending “modern attachments" and activating the archive mailbox;
  • Microsoft Teams collaboration tool;
  • Microsoft 365 Apps software collection that includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Publisher, Access, and Microsoft Project Online for project management;
  • private storage space available as a part of the OneDrive for Business (digital storage, collaboration, work on shared documents);
  • other Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint Online, Forms, Power BI);
  • Arnes Filesender for sending larger files and with the option of obtaining a delivery receipt;
  • University of Maribor internal portal (Intranet) including most commonly used part, the employee directory, where - among other data - the teaching staff can check their pedagogical workload (More / Pedagogical workload).  
  • very useful is also the Arnes Planer, enabling to plan meetings and to create simple surveys and questionnaires;
  • mailing lists for informing UM employees and students​.

Tools

  • Microsoft Copilot​ is an AI-based tool that we already offered to users before the beginning of this academic year, however back then under a different name and with lower capabilities;

  • more advanced PDF documents work using Foxit PDF Editor Pro, which also allows editing PDF documents;​

  • Microsoft licensed software, also available for development environments (Azure Dev Tools for Teaching), purposed for learning, teaching and development, where installation files for Windows operating system in the case of an upgrade can be found;
  • the MatLAB platform, an interactive environment for numerical calculations, visualization and programming as well as Simulink, providing a graphic editor, a flexible block library including add-ons for modelling and simulation of dynamic systems (campus licence). Available is also an add-on, enabling task performance on the Maister high-performance computer - HPC (find out more below);
  • engineering software tools NI Labview and Multisim that are used for the development of test and measuring systems and applications intended for measurements, automated testing and management, with quick access to hardware and data (campus licence);
  • the most widely used statistical SPSS software package / AMOS (campus licence);
  • EndNote, as a leading tool for references and quote management used while preparing seminar papers, final papers, research articles (campus licence, provided by University of Maribor Library);
  • the BrowZine tool (web access and iOS/Android application) for easier search through UM subscription sources, such as scientific and professional journals, with the use of a powerful taxonomy of scientific and areas of expertise (provided by University of Maribor Library);
  • access to VMWare company tools under the VMWare Academic Campus licence;
  • education environment under the SAP University Alliance programme, enabling access to the largest commercial integrated information system (campus licence for UM Members EPF, FERI, FOV and FL);
  • 3D CAD/CAM/CAE software and solutions for planning and development, PTC Creo products (campus licence);
  • ANSYS software combining computer simulations from the field of liquids, structural strength analyses, electronics, electromagnetism and multiphysics simulations, software also includes applications pertaining to the field​s of chemistry, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and other engineering related applications (campus licence for associate faculties, i.e., FS and FE).
  • Statista - The Statistics Portal provides transparent and easy access to reliable and well ordered statistical data from different fields;​

Applications

  • AIPS PPA: academic information system for support of study process;
  • Moodle: learning e-environment intended for teaching on all educational levels, supporting full-time and part-time studies as well as for all course participants categories. In case of​ problems, you can contact faculty e-learning coordinators;
  • Event registration: registration for events intended for employees. Access to the event registration list and attendance certificates.

Other

  • access to materials of the worldwide leading analyst Gartner, where the latest developments and trends regarding IT, semiconductors, process and customer management, education technology, energy, smart cities, human capital management (campus licence) can be followed;
  • useful URL shortener (due to security reasons, only UM-owned or UM-rented URLs are allowed to be shortened);
  • the Grammarly Premium Campus tool for checking English grammar and spelling (renewal executed on a yearly basis upon orders given by faculties);
  • The Amebis Besana​ tool for checking Slovene grammar and spelling;
  • CIS Sec​ureSuite is a set of cybersecurity tools and resources that help organizations protect their systems and data from cyber threats;
  • access to the high-performance computer (HPC) Maister, as part of UM projects. ​
